While still mainly used by celebrities and others with an excess of money to spend on “health food”, the public is now becoming more familiar with them and becoming increasingly aware of the benefits they can bring. With this in mind, it’s important to get clear on what exactly is a super food and to determine if these claims are true.

When you hear the term ‘super food’, you may be thinking something different. While, in the past, the term meant something that was more nutritious than normal food, the term is starting to come into its own as a result of the recent “flavor bomb” craze. Basically, super foods are healthy foods that you would be hard pressed to find in other foods, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, etc. For example, look at a bunch of fruits. Whole grains are another super food. For most people, regular bread and pasta do not contain enough good carbohydrates to really have any nutritional value. Whole grains are whole grain breads and pasta with added fiber and nutrition.

Super meats and oils are a way to get even more nutrients from the same foods. These include lean cuts of meat, fish, chicken, and other products. Super oils are generally healthier for you because they are high in Omega-3 fatty acids.

There are many types of super foods available today. However, you should choose only those that you are actually interested in eating. If you just want to keep the label “super” on the label to look cool, then go ahead and pick up whatever looks good.
